It's really annoying seeing people describe Vipco's full frame dvd transfers as 'pan and scan'. THEY WEREN'T! They were 'open matte' transfers and there is big difference between open matte and pan & scan:
Open matte transfers expose the entire image, the top and bottom of which would normally be trimmed for theatrical exhibition. They loose nothing from the image.
P&S scan brutally chops the image from all four sides of the frame and renders most films unwatchable.
The ONLY Vipco releases that are P&S are the Screamtime editions of THE BEYOND, HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY and MOUNTAIN OF THE CANNIBAL GOD and the 'Cult Classics' release of GREMLOIDS!
